Africa has a lot of fun facts that will shock you. In this post I have written out quit a couple of fun facts about Africa that will wow you.

  1. Africa is the second largest continent in the world both in population and land size.
  2. Africa has the shortest coastline despite being the second largest continent in the world.
  3. Arabic is the most widely spoken language in Africa.
  4. Nigeria is the most populated country in Africa. It makes up to 18% of the population of Africa with over 200 million people.
  5.  Africa is the most centrally located continent in the world. Both the prime meridian (0 degrees longitude), and the equator (0 degrees latitude) cut across it.
  6. The world’s longest river, the River Nile is in Africa
  7. The world’s largest desert, the Sahara Desert is in Africa.
  8. The world’s largest land animal, the Elephant comes from Africa.
  9. The world’s tallest land animal, the Giraffe comes from Africa
  10. Ethiopia in Africa is the hottest place in the world
  11. The Equator passes through Africa and receives direct sunlight throughout the year.
  12. More than 50% of the world’s French-speaking population lives here in Africa

  18. Some houses in Tunisia are made from fish bones. This is because the locals believe fish have supernatural powers and will protect against evil spirits.
  19. There’s a bar built into a 6000-year-old baobab tree, located in South Africa. You can visit to enjoy a drink all through the year. 
  20. Ethiopia has its own alphabet. It’s the only country in Africa to have its very own.

  24. Mount Kilimanjaro is Africa’s highest peak, but it’s also the tallest free-standing mountain in the world.
